Critical Software Powers Smarter European Missiles with AI

Portuguese tech firm Critical Software is helping make Europe’s future missile systems smarter. As part of the €35M EU-funded BEAST project, the company is developing AI-driven platforms to improve responsiveness and adaptability in missile tech — without compromising security. The goal? Combat next-gen threats like drone swarms, cruise missiles, and electronic warfare.

Critical Software, working alongside industry giants like SAAB, Hensoldt, and Northrop Grumman, is the only Portuguese player in this 12-country consortium. The project runs through 2028 and aims to lay the groundwork for Europe's next-gen defense capabilities.

As João Pedro Mortágua of Critical Software puts it: “In today’s world, building defense systems is no longer optional — it’s a responsibility.”
