Cloudflare has thwarted the largest DDoS attack in history, stopping the Aisuru botnet at a staggering 29.7 terabits per second. With an army of up to 4 million devices, Aisuru specializes in “hypervolumetric” attacks, launching multiple offensives over 1 Tbps each day.
Critical industries and AI companies are prime targets, with attacks surging amid geopolitical tensions—particularly in automotive, mining, and generative AI sectors. Indonesia leads as the main source of DDoS traffic, while Portugal saw success: the Fogos.pt portal remained online during peak fire season thanks to Cloudflare’s defenses.
The report notes a shift toward “lightning attacks,” lasting under 10 minutes, making manual defense obsolete and emphasizing the need for fully automated systems. Cloudflare’s mitigation proves that even record-breaking assaults can be absorbed when infrastructures are prepared.
