CIMPOR to invest €155M in new R&D Center for sustainable construction in Portugal

A major leap toward greener construction: CIMPOR has announced a €155 million investment to modernize its operations and establish a cutting-edge Research & Development Center in Alhandra, Portugal. This initiative will create 100+ skilled jobs and position the country at the forefront of sustainable building innovation.

Key highlights:

The new R&D Center will focus on low-clinker cement, carbon capture, AI in production, concrete recycling, and 3D printing for modular construction

♻️ The facility will be built using green cement (LC³) and recycled aggregates, embracing the circular economy

🤝 Open collaboration with universities, startups, and global innovation hubs

🏢 The center will also serve as a “living lab,” with real-time monitoring and educational access

CEO Cevat Mert underscores this as a milestone in showcasing Portuguese talent and innovation capacity. Chairman Suat Çalbiyik noted that CIMPOR has grown into the world’s 3rd largest cement group, operating in 14 countries with 8,000 employees.
