Amkor Technology’s €150 Million Investment Among the Largest in Portugal's 2024 Economic Package

Amkor Technology has secured a significant €150 million investment to expand its factory in Vila do Conde, one of the largest projects contracted by Portugal's Ministry of Economy in 2024. This is part of a broader €420 million investment package approved by the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP) to support the creation of over 1,000 jobs across six different sectors.

The investments reflect a marked increase compared to previous years, with a focus on strategic industries and highly skilled labor. The overall package is expected to bolster Portugal’s economic outlook for 2025, despite challenging external conditions. The Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, emphasized the confidence investors have in Portugal’s economy and its long-term prospects.

Key projects include Amkor Technology's €150 million expansion, which aims to boost production capacity in Vila do Conde, and a €47 million investment by West Yorse Powertrain Portugal to increase production in Cacia. Other notable investments include Bosch Car Multimedia’s €26 million project for innovative technology development and Vicaima’s €28 million capacity expansion in Vale de Cambra.

Additionally, the pharmaceutical sector, represented by Medinfar, Bial, and Glint, will see €47 million in investments.

These investments complement other ongoing initiatives, such as Stellantis’ €119 million investment in Mangualde for electric vehicle production, Bosch’s €35 million research lab for sustainable air conditioning solutions, and Lufthansa Tecnik’s new repair facility for aircraft components in Santa Maria da Feira.
