Altice/MEO's CEO, Ana Figueiredo, has defended a proposed 12-euro increase in the base salary for employees, stating that it is “appropriate for the current situation.” This stance has sparked criticism from unions, including CGTP (Sinttav, SNTCT, and STT), who argue that Altice/MEO is prioritizing bonuses for select individuals over the welfare of its broader workforce. According to union reports, Altice/MEO spent 10 million euros on bonuses for a small group of employees.
During recent meetings between the company and sector unions on February 26th and 28th, Altice/MEO maintained that the 12-euro salary raise was sufficient. The company presented several proposals, including modest increases to the base salary and meal allowances, but all were met with discontent by the unions, who described the offers as “a disgrace.”
The unions also criticized the company’s approach, pointing out the disparity between salary increases for the general workforce and bonuses for a select few, with Altice/MEO reportedly setting aside more than 10 million euros for bonuses. This imbalance prompted the unions to appeal to the Directorate-General for Employment and Labor Relations (DGERT) for conciliation, as they prepare for a plenary session in Porto on March 13th to further address the issue.
