Worten is building the biggest logistics center in Portugal, called Worten Orders Park, in Castanheira do Ribatejo. The project is expected to start operating in 2028. The new center is meant to improve efficiency and how quickly they can respond to customer needs, especially as logistics becomes more complicated with more locations to manage.
Construction is starting this Friday and will take two years.
Merlin Properties is working with Worten on both the building and managing the construction. The center will normally employ about 350 people, but during busy times like summer, Christmas, and Black Friday, they will need more staff.
Worten also plans to create jobs in different areas, especially in technology and engineering.
Pedro Chainho, the Head of Supply Chain, said the center offers a modern and innovative work environment, making the jobs more interesting and meaningful for employees.
One of the main features is the use of automation technology, like a sorter that can handle up to 10,000 orders every hour.
This helps allow customers to order as late as midnight and get their items delivered the next day to their home, office, or other places.
The platform will supply all Worten stores in Portugal and Spain, including the Canary Islands, and also support the company’s international operations in other markets.
Sustainability is a big part of the plan.
The facility will have solar panels for renewable energy, systems to reuse water, and design improvements to keep the workplace comfortable for workers.
The center covers 115,000 square meters and will be built in stages, marking a big step forward in Worten’s efforts to modernize its logistics system and expand its services.
