The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) will invest €20 million in two new data centers. This project will build one of the largest digital infrastructures in Portuguese higher education. Work will move forward in phases until October 2028.
Expanding Research and Sovereign Cloud Services
The new facilities will increase computing power for artificial intelligence, health, deep tech, and biotechnology.
ULisboa will build one data center at Instituto Superior Técnico in Taguspark and another at the Faculty of Sciences in Cidade Universitária. These sites will host a sovereign cloud. This system keeps sensitive scientific data securely stored on university servers.
Connecting Academia and Industry
The infrastructure will also support commercial partners and startups. It aims to move research out of labs and into practical market products.
Funding comes from the Lisboa 2030 Regional Program under the ULISBOA CORE and ULISBOA CORE+ initiatives.
