The era of fully remote work is ending, except for the most skilled workers, according to Sander van’t Noordende, the global CEO of Randstad. By 2025, millions of workers will be asked to return to the office, signaling the end of the big remote work trend. Only top talent with special skills will keep working remotely full-time, leading to what experts call a “hybrid hierarchy.”
Van’t Noordende says the new work setup benefits people with rare tech skills or strong business skills.
For most workers, going back to the office is now necessary—but the old 9-to-5, five-day schedule won’t come back. Instead, a mix of three to four days in the office and some work from home is becoming the usual way to work.
In this hybrid setup, top performers get more flexibility, while newer or more standard jobs require more in-person time.
With hiring slowing and pay staying the same, flexibility is one of the few tools companies have to keep their best workers. The work environment has changed: being present at the office is now a privilege, not something you get automatically.
