SBM Offshore in Portugal: Building a Sustainable Future with Talent and Innovation

SBM Offshore, a global leader in floating solutions for offshore energy—especially in deepwater oil and gas—has been steadily expanding its Portuguese presence since 2022. Now with over 400 employees across 18 nationalities in Portugal, the company is creating a multidisciplinary global competence center in Porto, focused on engineering, tech, finance, HR, and more.

Pedro Gomes da Costa, Country General Manager, highlights SBM's commitment to its "True. Blue. Transition." strategy, which aims to drive cleaner and more efficient energy solutions. Globally, the group employs around 7,800 people and operates one of the largest FPSO fleets in the world.

Sara Ribeiro, HR Manager in Portugal, notes that attracting and retaining talent revolves around inclusion, learning, and well-being. With mentoring programs, individual growth plans, and partnerships with universities, SBM cultivates both junior and senior talent. In 2024 alone, 35 employees were promoted, and the company achieved gender parity, a milestone in a traditionally male-dominated sector.

SBM also prioritizes digital transformation, including AI-driven efficiency in operations, while maintaining a "human-first" philosophy. Sustainability, both environmental and organizational, is central: from developing carbon capture technologies to fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and continuous development. The goal? To be part of the solution to tomorrow’s energy challenges—responsibly and with real impact.
