Just hours before his televised debate with Pedro Nuno Santos, Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro updated his declaration of interests on Portugal’s Transparency Portal. The update reveals seven new clients of Spinumviva, the family consultancy firm in which he holds a stake, as reported by Expresso.
Among the newly disclosed clients are Rodáreas (Felgueiras-Lousada) and Rodáreas (Viseu)—subsidiaries of the Joaquim Barros Rodrigues e Filhos Group, which notably contributed to Spinumviva's record €194,000 turnover in 2022. Montenegro states he provided consultancy services in "company restructuring and strategic planning" to both entities.
The other newly declared clients span multiple sectors and include:
- Portugalenses Transportes, a Vila Nova de Gaia-based logistics company (consulting on management and planning),
- Beetsteel, a metalworking firm in Braga (business management consulting),
- ITAU – Technical Institute of Human Food,
- Sogenave, a supply and hotel industry distribution company,
- INETUM Portugal, an IT consulting firm,
- Grupel, SA, an energy solutions company headquartered in Vagos.
This update adds further transparency to the Prime Minister's past professional engagements, particularly relevant given the scrutiny over private sector ties for public office holders. The timing of the disclosure, shortly before a key political debate, may also signal an effort to preempt political criticism or questions regarding conflicts of interest.
