Portugal Considered for New International Space University Branch

The International Space University (ISU), the only institution dedicated to space education, is exploring the possibility of opening a new campus in northern Portugal. Talks have begun with University of Minho, and while no official decision has been made, the president of ISU, John Wensveen, met with Rui Vieira de Castro, the rector of the university, to discuss potential collaboration.

The ISU aims to expand globally and is considering locations in regions like Asia, Africa, and other European countries. If the partnership with the University of Minho moves forward, it is expected that the ISU hub will be established in Guimarães.

Wensveen expressed optimism, saying Portugal is an “extremely attractive” opportunity for the university’s expansion. A final decision is expected by the end of 2025.
