New Innovation Hub in Cerveira to Boost Cross-Border Industry and Generate €400K by Year-End

The Polymer Engineering Innovation Hub (PIEP), affiliated with the University of Minho, has inaugurated a new unit within the Cerveira Innovation Center (CIC) in Vila Nova de Cerveira. This strategic move is part of an industrial and scientific cooperation plan aimed at reinforcing synergies between Portugal and Galicia, and promoting regional competitiveness and innovation.

The new 200 m² space will accommodate 20 employees working on high-impact projects, notably GreenHUB—a cross-border initiative focused on sustainability and technological transformation. The hub is expected to contribute around €400,000 to PIEP’s turnover by the end of 2025.

“This hub will act as a catalyst for industrial modernization in Alto Minho and foster stronger connections with Galicia,” said PIEP Chairman Nuno Guimarães. Rui Teixeira, Mayor of Vila Nova de Cerveira, added that this marks a defining moment in the municipality’s ambition to become a regional leader in innovation and sustainable development.

The initiative is further supported by CCDR-Norte President António Cunha, who emphasized the importance of Cerveira’s strategic location near key industrial clusters such as Vigo and Porriño.

PIEP specializes in polymeric materials, product engineering, and AI in manufacturing. With this expansion, it aims to support SMEs, spark new startups, and position Cerveira as a technological bridge in the Galicia–North Portugal Euroregion.
