Mezan has officially notified Portugal’s Competition Authority of its acquisition of PT Data Center, the company operating Meo’s hyperscale data center in Covilhã. The deal involves the transfer of full control from Meo through the purchase of all share capital.
PT Data Center provides hosting services and infrastructure capable of supporting AI model training. Mezan is controlled by Asterion, an investment firm active across telecoms, energy, utilities, and mobility in Southern and Western Europe.
The regulator is accepting comments on the transaction for the next 10 business days.
This move follows Asterion’s November announcement of a €120 million deal with Altice Portugal to enter the Portuguese data center market via the Covilhã campus. Altice will remain the facility’s main client under a long-term contract, ensuring operational continuity.
Asterion highlights Portugal’s competitive energy costs, strong connectivity, advanced fiber infrastructure, and renewable-powered energy system as key advantages. Subject to regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to close in Q1 2026.
