MEO is preparing to retire MEO Cloud, its file storage platform aimed at competing with global services like Google Drive and Mega. Communications have already reached some users, signaling the imminent closure.
Originally launched as Cloud PT, the service was rebranded in 2013 as MEO Cloud. It offered users a space to store digital files and share content via links, with 16 GB free storage at its peak. Both MEO customers and the general public could access the platform, which represented a national effort in an increasingly competitive, globalized market.
Despite these efforts, MEO Cloud struggled to gain traction against international giants. High subscription costs per gigabyte and strong global competition limited its adoption, leaving the platform unable to secure a significant user base.
MEO has started notifying inactive users via email, advising them to download stored files before the service ends. While no official closure date has been announced, the company plans to provide more information soon. Users are also encouraged to log in to maintain account activity until the shutdown.
