Lufthansa Technik Portugal will receive more than €1.5 million in tax benefits for its upcoming industrial unit in Santa Maria da Feira, scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2027. The €227.6 million investment will focus on the repair and maintenance of aircraft engine components, creating 526 jobs—325 of them by 2028 and the remainder by 2030.
The tax relief includes an exemption from the Municipal Property Transfer Tax (IMT) of up to €1.5 million and a five-year exemption from the Municipal Property Tax (IMI), capped at €40,000. Approved unanimously by the local council, the support falls under Portugal’s Contractual Tax Benefits Regime for Productive Investment, which requires municipal agreement to waive certain taxes.
Mayor Amadeu Albergaria praised the project as a “transformative investment” that will strengthen Feira’s industrial and economic role while positioning Portugal as a competitive destination for high-tech industries. The factory, to be located in the LusoPark industrial zone, marks Lufthansa Technik's first venture in Portugal and underscores the region’s commitment to attracting strategic international investments.
The tax incentives are contingent upon the factory meeting specific conditions, including fulfillment of all investment contract terms, acquisition of relevant property by the end of 2025, and continued operation through at least 2035.
