Discontent is growing within Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) after the company’s administration decided to raise salaries only for managers and appointed positions, excluding hundreds of senior technicians. More than 230 employees have signed an open letter to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, denouncing what they call a “discriminatory decision.”
According to the workers, IP’s leadership - chaired by Miguel Cruz - approved promotions and pay raises this year that benefited only managerial roles, leaving out long-serving professionals who have played key roles in major national projects such as PRR, PNI 2030, and high-speed rail development.
The letter highlights issues of career stagnation, salary inequality, and excessive workloads, while also criticizing new hires being granted 20% pay bonuses through work-hour exemptions denied to senior staff performing identical duties.
The Road Infrastructure Workers Union (STIR) has requested an urgent meeting with the minister and will be received on October 29. Employees warn that the current policy risks demotivating teams and driving away experienced talent from the public company, which oversees more than €17 billion in national infrastructure investments. They are calling for fair and transparent recognition measures to restore trust and equality within IP.
