Inetum Portugal: Making Digital Transformation Work

Instead of just talking about digital transformation, Inetum Portugal is all about making a real difference. They focus on getting the right people, working with universities, and using practical ideas to get results for government groups and big businesses. They see AI as a helpful tool, not something to be scared of.

Pedro Gomes Santos, the CEO of Inetum Portugal, talked about what's important for IT leaders during the Digital Inside Coffee Break. They covered finding talent, using new tech, artificial intelligence, and keeping things legal.

Most global companies stick to Lisbon and Porto, but Inetum also has offices in Covilhã and Bragança. This is on purpose – they want to be near universities. In Bragança, Inetum even teaches a class that lasts six months, which helps them find and train talent early. Now, almost half of their employees in Portugal are in these locations.

Inetum divides its work into three parts: tech advice (creating digital plans), managing main tech operations (like infrastructure and systems), and creating solutions, which is growing the most. They partner with companies like SAP, Microsoft, ServiceNow, and Salesforce to grow in areas like data, AI, cybersecurity, and engineering. This helps them work in industries like defense, transportation, and government services.

Inetum is all about real results. From making civil records digital in Peru to keeping important services running all the time in Portugal, they want to be known as a reliable partner when things really matter.

Santos says that Portugal is usually quick to try new tech. The problem, especially in government, isn't getting the tech but training people to use it and managing change. If people don't adopt it, the transformation isn't complete.

Inetum has a realistic way of looking at AI. They believe that fear comes from not knowing enough and expecting too much. AI should help people, not replace them. They've already automated over 100 processes internally, which frees up their teams to do more important work. When working with clients, they focus on making things more productive and efficient, not just cutting costs.

Instead of seeing European AI rules as limiting, they see them as a way to innovate in a responsible way. Ethics and following the rules are key, and with the right knowledge and partners, you can still innovate successfully within those rules.

The main point is that people drive digital transformation, not just buzzwords. Tech is just a tool, not the end goal. Real success is measured by what you do, not just what you say.
