HCLTech Bets on AI to Elevate Jobs, Not Eliminate Them

HCLTech is putting its faith in AI to improve jobs, not take them away. At their AGM, the company's chairperson, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, argued against the idea that using AI will lead to losing jobs.

She explained that AI will work as a helper to make humans more efficient, changing the way jobs are done instead of replacing people. HCLTech is spending a lot on training employees and creating a group of top AI experts.

These experts are paid much more than regular new hires. In the first quarter of FY26, HCLTech hired almost 2,000 new people, and 15% of the future hires will be for roles based on AI. This approach is quite different from TCS, which recently laid off 12,000 workers in India's biggest IT job cut ever.
