Defined Crowd CEO: “Portugal Has the Foundations in Generative AI, But Needs to Expand”

Daniela Braga, Founder and CEO of Defined Crowd, highlighted Portugal's potential in generative artificial intelligence (AI) during a Zoom panel at Diário de Notícias’ 160th-anniversary conference held in Lisbon. She stressed the urgency of expanding existing foundational AI technologies, warning that delays are leaving the country further behind.

Portugal possesses the talent and conditions to develop core AI technologies, but more effort is needed to apply these globally, Braga argued. She called for a national AI agency and urged leveraging partnerships with U.S. academics to advance research and foster innovation.

Braga emphasized that the greatest returns often come not from inventing technologies but from applying them effectively across sectors poised for transformation.
