Brisa Acquires Full Control of Via Verde with Ascendi Stake Purchase

Brisa is set to take full ownership of Via Verde after acquiring Ascendi's 25% stake in the toll collection and mobility services company. The deal, pending approval from the Competition Authority and the Bank of Portugal, marks Brisa’s complete control of the business.

Ascendi, backed by French fund Ardian, has held its stake since 2021 after exercising its right of preference. Despite selling its Via Verde position, Ascendi remains involved in a joint venture with Via Verde and Yunex to implement a satellite-based toll system for heavy vehicles in the Netherlands.

Via Verde, established in 1991, processed 566 million toll transactions worth €1.4 billion last year. It operates across a 3,000 km network, with 5.2 million installed devices. Beyond tolls, Via Verde is active in parking solutions, EV charging, and transport ticketing.

Brisa Concessão Rodoviária (BCR) reported a profit of €325.9 million last year, up 17.8% from 2023, supported by economic growth and increased road traffic in Portugal.
