Bitsight Cuts Over 50 Jobs in Portugal, Replaces Roles with AI Technology

US cybersecurity firm Bitsight, with its EMEA headquarters in Lisbon, has laid off more than 50 employees in Portugal as part of a global “strategic adjustment” to improve operational efficiency through AI integration. The affected roles, including research analysts and technical positions, are being replaced by AI-powered systems that automate many functions.

The layoffs were initiated last year and surprised some local team leaders who learned about the decision only shortly before it was announced. Despite the cuts, Bitsight emphasized its ongoing commitment to Portugal as a key talent hub and EMEA base, noting plans to continue hiring for specialized, innovation-driven roles.

This restructuring comes shortly after Bitsight completed its $155 million acquisition of Cybersixgill, a cyber threat intelligence firm specializing in deep and dark web monitoring. Bitsight intends to integrate Cybersixgill’s generative AI models with its cybersecurity data to enhance its offerings.

Bitsight’s AI-driven tools, like the recently launched “Instant Insights,” aim to accelerate security risk analysis for clients worldwide. The company maintains offices in Lisbon, Raleigh, Israel, and Singapore, with more than 600 customers in the EMEA region.
