Artificial Intelligence gains scale in Portugal

AI is no longer a distant promise in Portugal — it’s settling into everyday workflows across energy, mobility, industry, and the public sector. Atos gathered leaders from companies like Galp, Brisa, Bondalti, and major public institutions to discuss what really matters now: trust, clear governance, and the ability to turn pilots into real value.

The mood has shifted from hype to responsibility. Companies want results, not endless proofs of concept. Galp built its data foundations before launching large-scale projects. Brisa uses machine learning to map accidents and improve highway safety. The Social Security Institute is redesigning processes and building its own private AI cloud to protect sensitive data.

Regulation sparked debate, but most agreed that balance is key: enough structure to ensure safety, not so much that innovation stalls. And through all this, one theme kept returning — people. Skills, culture, literacy. AI may be the engine, but humans decide the direction.
