Altice Portugal will cut around 1,000 jobs — about 16% of its workforce — as part of a restructuring effort driven by advances in artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reports.
According to Jorge Félix, president of the Altice Portugal workers’ union, some 800 employees took part in a contract termination program in July, on top of 200 who had already agreed to leave earlier this year. While Altice declined to comment, Félix noted the company must adapt to automation, reduce costs, and lower debt, potentially making it more appealing to future buyers.
