Addvolt, the Portuguese startup developing batteries for heavy vehicles, is now fully owned by the American company Carrier, which previously held a 10% stake. Founded in 2014 by four University of Porto engineering students, Addvolt’s original founders, including Bruno Azevedo, remain in management. The new ownership won’t alter the company’s DNA or strategy but aims to accelerate growth with fresh investments and hiring plans.
Early investors like 2bpartner (DST group), Portugal Ventures, and German funds are stepping away. Despite the ownership change, Carrier pledges to preserve Addvolt’s identity, operations, and talented Portuguese team.
