How You Will Make a Difference
As an Android Software Engineer II on the SDK, at Iterable, you will contribute to our Android and Flutter SDK and related mobile integration features that enable customers to send billions of personalized messages to people around the globe each year. This includes adding new features to our existing integration channels, such as SMS and Push Notifications, and helping to build support for new mobile and device channels that we may add in the future (e.g., Roku, Messenger, WhatsApp, Android Auto, and others).
You will work closely with our Product team to refine product features and assess the feasibility of future projects, and collaborate with teams like Delivery and User Data Infrastructure to ensure that the products and services the mobile team builds remain fast, reliable, and scalable.
One of our core values is a growth mindset, and Iterable is a company where everyone can grow. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply – we value candidates for the skills and potential they bring beyond the job description.
You Will Have the Opportunity To
- Own Android SDKs and associated functionality, with an increasing focus on how they integrate cleanly with Flutter and other cross-platform environments.
- Influence the technical strategy to build SDKs and integrations that mobile and Flutter developers will love, with clear APIs and reliable behavior.
- Drive team discussions on system architecture and component design, with an eye towards cross-platform usage patterns (native + Flutter).
- Design intuitive and high-performance APIs that feel natural for both Android and Flutter developers.
- Participate in code reviews and help maintain high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Ship code frequently in an iterative environment, balancing quality and speed.
- Collaborate with a small, agile team of engineers who value ownership, autonomy, and learning.
- Collaborate with Product and other Iterable teams to fulfill the technical vision of the team for mobile and cross-platform channels.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to help support our customers (currently about once a quarter).
We Are Looking for People Who Have
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of mobile development experience, with a strong track record of building and shipping Android applications or SDKs (SWE II level).
- Solid knowledge of Android and its core frameworks, along with a strong understanding of mobile platforms and their limitations.
- Expert-level proficiency in Kotlin or Java, and modern Android tools and libraries.
- Solid computer science fundamentals (threads, memory management, performance, and best testing practices).
- Experience building and maintaining public interaction APIs and/or SDKs, ideally for external developers.
- Hands-on experience with Flutter in a production or near-production context (e.g., shipping features in a Flutter app, building a Flutter plugin, or integrating a native Android SDK into a Flutter codebase). This experience is strongly preferred and will be used daily in the role.
- A passion for continuously learning and improving yourself, your team, and the developer experience you create.
Bonus Points
- Examples of submitted applications or SDKs in the Google Play Store.
- Experience with mobile build systems and automation (e.g., Gradle, CI pipelines).
- Experience with testing frameworks for mobile and/or Flutter (unit, integration, snapshot, end-to-end).
- Involvement in the local or global Android and/or Flutter developer community (meetups, open source, speaking, writing, etc.).
- Experience deploying and operating services on AWS or another major cloud provider.
- Proficiency in other cross-platform development frameworks such as React Native; Flutter remains our strong preference for this role, but adjacent experience is valuable.
While experience with Flutter is highlighted as a strong preference and a key part of this role, we are always excited to talk to Android engineers who can demonstrate the ability to quickly adapt to new frameworks and tools.
