Java Backend Developer with AI Integration – Mid to Senior Level

As a Java Backend Developer with AI Integration, you will be working for our client, a forward-thinking technology company pushing the boundaries of AI-assisted software development. Your expertise will help deliver high-quality backend services, leveraging AI tools to accelerate workflows, enhance code quality, and streamline deployment processes. Your main responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Quarkus.
• Incorporate AI tools such as GitLab Duo and Claude Code to enhance coding efficiency, testing, and code reviews.
• Develop and execute automated unit and integration tests to ensure robust backend systems.
• Troubleshoot and optimize CI/CD pipelines, employing AI-driven diagnostics to accelerate root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers, QA, and product managers to deliver reliable, well-tested software.
• Integrate AI-assisted features, exploring new workflows for improved development practices.
• Maintain high standards of code quality, participate in code reviews, and ensure adherence to engineering standards.
• Keep abreast of emerging AI tools and methodologies, experimenting responsibly to enhance development productivity.

You’re ideal for this role if you have:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Java (Quarkus experience is a plus).
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, Claude Code, or similar.
• Proven ability to design and build reliable, scalable APIs and microservices.
• Experience writing automated tests for backend systems.
• Ability to understand business context to inform technical design.
• Curiosity and willingness to experiment with new AI tools responsibly.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving AI practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative spirit and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

It is a strong plus if you have:

• Experience with LLM-based integrations, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or agent orchestration workflows.
• Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar AI-system integration tools.
• Exposure to AI-native development practices, such as spec-driven development or automation workflows.

• English – communicative proficiency necessary.
