Laser cutting and Lightburn workshop
Date: September 29 and 30 and October 5
The registration includes participation in the entire training cycle.
The registration is unique and valid for the three scheduled sessions. It is not necessary to register separately for each day.
Schedule: 17:00 - 20:00
Session 1: Fundamentals of LightBurn and first project on the machine
Objective: Get in touch with the interface, practice layer work (cutting/engraving), and create a first simple object.
● Block 1: Essential use of LightBurn and safety
○ Basic anatomy of the Pérez Cams 80100 cutter, safety, and how to set the origin/focus.
○ LightBurn interface: Importing vectors, setting the origin (User Origin), and working with color layers (Cut Layer vs. Engraving Layer).
○ Preparation of the first individual design (a coaster or keychain with engraved text and exterior cut).
● Block 2: Manufacturing on the machine
○ Turn-taking at the machine to adjust the laser and send the file to cut/engrave on wood (MDF).
○ Visual review of the results obtained.
Session 2: Materials, testing matrices, and engraving images
Objective: Adjust power/speed parameters for different materials and learn to process photographs or raster images.
● Block 1: Parameters by material and testing matrix
○ Behavior of common materials: Wood, acrylic, cardstock, and leather.
○ Use of the Material Test Generator from LightBurn to find live the ideal power and speed on various scraps.
○ Basic image handling in LightBurn (contrast, DPI resolution, and dithering algorithms like Jarvis or Stucki).
● Block 2: Practice of photographic engraving
○ Preparation of an image by each participant.
○ Direct engraving of the image on wood or acrylic on the Pérez Cams 80100.
Session 3: 3D assemblies, optimization, and basic maintenance
Objective: Design pieces that fit together, optimize paths to save time/material, and know the basic maintenance of the machine.
● Block 1: Fittings, cutting compensation, and optimization
○ Designing joints (tabs and boxes) and adjusting the cutting bleed (Kerf Offset) in LightBurn for press-fit.
○ Optimization of the cutting order (cutting interior holes first) and preview of working time.
○ Adjusting and preparing the file for the final project.
● Block 2: Final project and maintenance
○ Designing, cutting, and assembling the integrative project (e.g., a small organizer box or phone holder).
○ Quick demonstration of cleaning lenses/mirrors with isopropyl alcohol and emptying the drawer. Other aspects of maintenance.
