Design systems, Portuguese brands, and AI in between, curated by Ruben Ferreira Duarte.
It's hard to imagine everyday life without the digital products and services that have become essential to our daily lives. Through these solutions, we manage our finances and make all kinds of payments. We read news that shapes current events. We study. We search for jobs. We discover new romantic relationships. We interact with our children's schools (and occasionally even request transportation for them).
Generally, these are quite complex products and services, both technologically and experientially. Solutions that require specialized technical teams and significant investments. Design systems form the foundations of many of these solutions. Simply put, design systems aggregate all strategic and technical guidelines to build and evolve these digital products and services.
The landscape of design systems in Portugal has evolved exponentially. Much due to the significant investments that brands have made in this field, bringing them many scaling benefits. The study Map of Design Systems in Portugal shows this in its editions of 2022 and 2024, demonstrating a very interesting growth in the quality of these systems among Portuguese brands.
The discussion about design systems and Portuguese brands, part of the 2026 Creativity Club Festival programming, will reflect, through real cases, on the current scenario. How has the work of design systems evolved in Portugal? Where do we stand, and what is anticipated for the future?
In the meantime, we will also talk about artificial intelligence. This is an unavoidable reality. It makes perfect sense to understand how this technological transformation can further enhance the systemic thinking of digital products and services that design systems so aptly represent.
Ruben Ferreira Duarte, Lead Product Designer and specialist in Design Systems and Digital Accessibility
