Conversation about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the appreciation of Knowledge

The Cycle of Conversations about Artificial Intelligence promoted by Shifter at the Alcântara Library – José Dias Coelho dedicates the next - and final conversation - to the theme of Knowledge.

In this session, we will discuss the value of knowledge in the age of Artificial Intelligence. What is the worth of knowing in a time when machines want us to believe that they know everything?

As part of a cycle that has explored the transformations of AI in our daily lives, this conversation invites the sharing of experiences and perspectives on how AI is redefining the value of knowledge in contemporary societies.

The conversation will feature the participation of:

Carolina Flores, philosopher and assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Lisbon. Researcher who writes about knowledge and ignorance, belief and changes in opinion, styles of thinking, social identities, and how they shape our perspectives, delusions, and (ir)rationality.

Vania Baldi, PhD in Italy in Ethics and Anthropology, professor in the sociology department at ISCTE -IUL. He is part of the coordination of OberCom. Among his recent books are 'Optimized and Misplaced: Ethics and Critique in the Era of Artificial Unconsciousness' (Húmus, 2024), 'The Right Not to Be Misinformed' (Almedina, 2025), 'Digital Infrastructures of Cognition, Culture, and Democracy' (Routledge, 2026).
