Welcome to AIces 2026 (CESArtIn 2026), the 1st International School on the Cognitive, Ethical and Societal Dimensions of Artificial Intelligence, taking place March 30 – April 2, 2026, in Porto–Maia, Portugal, at the University of Maia.
AIces 2026 is the first in a new series of research training events designed to update participants on the most recent multidisciplinary discussions on the foundations, meaning, challenges, and risks of AI. Across three thematic lines, cognition, ethics, and society, the school will address current debates on topics such as AI and philosophy of mind, cognitive architectures, machine learning and cognitive development, large language models and visual information, robotics and embodied cognition, neuroscience-inspired AI, algorithmic bias and fairness, transparency and explainability, accountability and responsibility, privacy and surveillance, autonomy and control, AI’s impact on human values and social inequalities, the future of work and automation, governance and regulation, AI and human rights, democracy, global development, and AI education.
The programme includes 10 courses, 2 keynote lectures, 3 participant symposia, and 3 open thematic debate sessions, delivered by renowned academics and industry pioneers. Two courses will run in parallel throughout the event, allowing participants to freely choose the sessions they wish to attend and to move between courses. While full live online participation will be available, the organisers strongly emphasise the value of face-to-face interaction and networking as core ingredients of the school. All lectures will be videorecorded and available to participants for 45 days after the event.
