We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join an international team working with a leading client in the cyber security domain, based in Luxembourg.
This role focuses on building secure, resilient, and scalable backend systems in a cloud-native environment, while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, data, and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Backend Engineering: Design, build, and evolve server-side components using modern Java (version 21) and the Spring ecosystem.
- Apply the most appropriate data access strategies, from ORM-based approaches to lower-level database interactions, depending on the use case.
- Ensure efficient and secure interaction with relational databases such as Oracle and cloud-based PostgreSQL, following sound software design principles.
- Deliver backend solutions with a strong focus on security, resilience, performance, and maintainability, aligned with cyber security best practices.
Cloud Platforms & Delivery:
- Contribute to the deployment and operation of applications in an AWS environment, using both container-based and serverless services.
- Define and maintain cloud infrastructure as code, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and reliability across environments.
- Actively participate in automation, CI/CD pipelines, and delivery workflows.
Python & Multi-Stack Contributions:
- Participate in the development of Python components when needed, supporting automation, integrations, or data-related use cases.
- Collaborate closely with data-oriented teams to enable smooth data flows, transformations, and interoperability between platforms.
Requirements:
- Higher education in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Strong background in Java backend development, including deep experience with the Spring framework.
- Solid experience working with relational databases.
- Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating workloads on AWS cloud services.
- Comfortable using Python for scripting, services, or system integrations.
- Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
- Good understanding of API design, distributed systems, and application security.
- Daily use of source control platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
- Previous collaboration with data engineering or analytics teams.
- Familiarity with automated build and deployment processes.
- Understanding of container technologies and orchestration platforms.
- Experience working in iterative delivery frameworks and using project tracking tools.
- Knowledge of observability, logging, and alerting solutions.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to artificial intelligence tools or ecosystems.
- Cloud certifications (AWS or equivalent).
- Experience in cyber security-focused environments or regulated industries.
