Pedro Pacheco, founder of BERD and professor at Porto’s Faculty of Engineering, joined the League of Innovators to share how a passion for bridges turned into a global engineering force — and why 2025 is a year of massive hiring for the company.
What started with a rejected 100-page proposal to a science foundation and a one-page pitch to industry partners became BERD — with support from Martifer and Mota-Engil. Now, almost 30 years later, Pacheco is ready to unveil BERD’s latest breakthrough: a new software tool that he claims “will, with all humility, change the paradigm in the construction industry.”
To drive this innovation forward, BERD — or EBRD as it’s internationally branded — is on the hunt for highly qualified, ambitious IT professionals, especially in Portugal. “This year is hiring, hiring, hiring,” Pacheco emphasizes.
At its core, bridge engineering is about connecting — not just physical locations, but people and possibilities. And now, BERD is looking to connect with the talent that will help shape the infrastructure of the future.
