Raize Moves to Sue Former Executives José Maria Rego and António Marques

Raize – Payment Institution has scheduled a General Shareholders' Meeting for March 31st, with a key agenda item being the potential filing of a liability lawsuit against its former executive directors, José Maria Rego and António da Silva Marques. The fintech has not disclosed specific reasons for the legal action.

José Maria Rego, a co-founder and former CEO of Raize, stepped down in February last year following Flexdeal’s acquisition of a 14.1% stake, increasing its ownership to 33.1%. Rego is now leading the Consumer Finance transformation at Novobanco. Executive director António Marques also resigned at the same time.

Following their departure, Raize appointed Alberto Amaral as Executive Chairman, joining João Pinto do Rosário and Ana Filipa Mendes on the board. Founded in 2014, Raize was Portugal’s first fintech dedicated to corporate financing and later expanded into payments. It went public on Euronext Access in 2018.

Additionally, at the upcoming General Meeting, shareholders will discuss converting €10,000 in credits from Flexdeal – SIMFE into supplementary capital contributions.
