NOVA FCT has announced the NOVA TechSphere, a €4.9 million innovation and technology hub in Costa da Caparica. The project includes the construction of an iconic 16-meter sphere, serving as a symbol of technology and innovation and a space for scientific and business presentations.
Inspired by models like MIT’s Innovation HQ, NOVA TechSphere will feature a coworking space, experimentation areas, and entrepreneurship support facilities. The hub will integrate NOVA FCT’s Fablab, fostering co-creation, prototyping, and knowledge transfer between researchers, students, and businesses.
The project, located in the Almada Innovation District, is 40% co-financed by the ERDF (€1.95M), with the remaining 60% self-funded by NOVA FCT. It aims to bridge the region’s technological gap, attract talent, and boost economic development.
According to NOVA FCT Director José Júlio Alferes, TechSphere will be an architectural landmark and a collaborative hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.
