Miguel Alves Ribeiro, CEO of sheerMe: “There can’t be just one leader”

Miguel Alves Ribeiro, CEO of sheerMe, believes there shouldn’t be just one leader. As the co-founder and CEO of sheerMe, a Portuguese beauty and wellness startup, he thinks leadership should be shared. “If I’m not at work, will the company fall apart? No way,” he says. This is why sheerMe uses a “CEO team” model, where important decisions are made by leaders from different areas. The company was started in 2021 and has raised almost €10 million to help salons and gyms book appointments online.

Ribeiro has worked at companies like PT, Oni, and Zomato, which gave him experience working in different countries.

His time in India with Zomato, where he was the only foreigner, helped him learn about humility and being resilient. “You have to break your ego and start over professionally,” he explains.

Now back in Portugal, he’s working to change traditional industries using technology.

Even though sheerMe has made progress, it still faces competition from old ways like using paper for scheduling. This shows that changing to digital systems takes a lot of time.
