Meta Uses AI to Speed up New App Development

During Meta's Q2 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company is leveraging large language models (LLMs) to speed up software creation and launch standalone applications at a faster pace. Recent releases include Instants for Instagram, Forum for Facebook Groups, Seller for Marketplace vendors, and experimental tools like AI bedtime stories.

Overcoming Past Incubator Limitations

Meta before struggled to launch long-lasting standalone apps through internal units like Creative Labs and NPE Team, closing down many standalone projects over the past decade. However, LLM-driven development and AI recommendation models have shifted the strategy. AI tools now assist engineering teams with content evaluation, ranking tests, and automated post processing across platforms, helping new standalone concepts scale more reliably.

Scaling Content and App Recommendations

Meta points to Threads, which reached 500 million monthly active users, as proof of how AI recommendation systems can scale new products. CFO Susan Li noted that LLM-native recommendation architectures now analyze content tone and topic across every post and Reel, making discovery systems smarter. With software shipping cycles accelerated by generative AI, Meta plans to release more consumer products soon.
