Dachser Opens New IT Hub in Porto, Boosting Portugal's Tech Standing

Germany's big logistics company, Dachser, has opened a new Corporate IT Hub in Porto. The hub is in a 750-square-meter office on the second floor of the Icon Douro building, which is close to the Nó de Francos area and owned by Ageas. This is Dachser's second biggest digital center in the world after its main office in Kempten, Germany. Other centers are in Spain, France, Hong Kong, and the USA.

The Porto hub started with 67 employees from eight different countries and is expected to have 90 employees by the end of 2025, with at least 100 jobs planned by 2026.

The team will work on software engineering, front-end and back-end development, UI/UX design, data analysis, cloud infrastructure, quality testing, and project management.

Ralf Morawietz, Dachser's Chief Information Officer, said, "This new IT Hub helps us with our global digitalization plan.

From Icon Douro, our teams will create new solutions to make logistics services better and help our customers grow around the world."

Celestino Silva, Dachser's Managing Director for European Logistics Iberia, said, "This move strengthens Portugal's role in our global network and shows how important Porto is as a tech center in Europe.

We are helping the region grow economically and technologically."

The setup of the hub was done with help from Cushman & Wakefield, who rented the last available office space in the building.

Ageas has also been using the building since summer 2022. The building was designed by architect Luís Pedro Silva and covers over 22,000 square meters with two office buildings and 168 serviced apartments. It offers top services like meeting rooms, an auditorium, a restaurant, and a cafeteria. The project won the "Best Office Building" award at the 2023 National Real Estate Awards and was shortlisted for ArchDaily’s "Building of the Year 2024."

Dachser's expansion in Porto shows the city's growing reputation as a key tech center in Europe and shows the company's ongoing commitment to using digital innovation in global logistics operations.
