British AI startup Zango is increasing its operations in Portugal, introducing a new AI Product Manager role in Lisbon and planning to expand its local team. This move comes after the company secured a €4.1 million investment earlier this year.
Zango creates AI agents that help financial institutions with automated regulatory compliance tasks, such as horizon scanning, standards interpretation, and gap analysis.
The company's technology is already being used by Novobanco, Portugal's fourth-largest bank, and other top European neobanks like Monzo and Juni.
Ritesh Singhania, co-founder and CEO of Zango, stated, “We are building the layer of trust and governance in AI for regulatory compliance in the financial sector.
Portugal is one of our fastest-growing markets, and we are excited to expand our presence here.” The new Product Manager in Lisbon will focus on turning the compliance needs of financial institutions into real-world AI solutions, bridging the gap between engineering, regulation, and product design.
Zango views Lisbon as a key location for developing responsible AI, thanks to the country's strong talent in AI, fintech, and compliance.
The company was founded in 2024 and has teams based in London and Bangalore, supporting clients across Europe and around the globe. The recent expansion follows an investment round led by Nexus Venture Partners, with support from Portuguese venture capital firm Start Ventures.
