Atena Equity Buys Majority Stake in Pontual Group, Plans Tech Growth

Atena Equity Partners, a private equity firm, now owns over 80% of the Pontual Group. Pontual is a tech company based in Santa Maria da Feira with over 150 employees and about €12 million in revenue. The group, which also includes BNEXT, has 11 offices in Portugal and Spain.

António Teixeira started Pontual in Porto in 1993 as a small software and equipment business. By 1998, Teixeira had full ownership and shifted the company to Feira, later moving to bigger offices in 2011. Over time, the group has grown through seven acquisitions and mergers, becoming a full-service IT consultant for SMEs with over 3,500 clients. They provide software development, managed services, ERP and CRM solutions, and custom IT projects.

Teixeira and his management team (Nuno Paiva, Mário Tavares, and Filipe Santos) will keep a minority stake and continue to run the company. Atena says this acquisition will speed up growth, make the group stronger in Portugal and Spain, and help it expand by growing organically and making more acquisitions.

Miguel Lancastre, a founding partner at Atena Equity Partners, said this deal will let the group grow faster, noting they’re already a top-three player in their field. Teixeira added that they'll speed up their plan by acquiring companies, client lists, and specialized teams.

J+Legal, Accenture, Deloitte, and Sustanya supported the deal with legal and due diligence work. Vieira de Almeida gave legal advice to Pontual and BNEXT.

Pontual is now part of Atena’s portfolio, which includes companies like Malo Clinic, Redshift, Tecnifreza, Quinta & Santos, Unisana Hospitais, Plastrofa-Polisac, Matcerâmica, NacionalGest, and Buzz DMC. This shows Atena’s goal of growing Portuguese companies and helping them expand internationally.
