A recent study shows that about 70% of Portuguese managers regularly use generative AI for tasks like research, writing, and summarizing texts. Most use it multiple times a week: 56% for information retrieval, 46% for writing, and 43% for summaries. Other uses include learning (39%), text analysis (37%), idea generation (28%), data analysis (24%), and decision support (18%).
Usage is higher in larger companies and in sectors like finance, education, ICT, and professional services, while industries such as agriculture, construction, transport, and hospitality lag behind. Tools like ChatGPT (91%), Copilot (55%), and Gemini (27%) dominate, though the study notes the landscape is constantly evolving, with open-source models offering more tailored options.
Researchers highlight that adoption needs to focus on practical training and integration into business processes, emphasizing usefulness over mere frequency. The survey interviewed 406 AESE Business School alumni, mostly in senior or supervisory positions, and suggests the next step is broader corporate integration of generative AI.
