Talk 1 – 18:40

Title: From Lisp to Types: A Clojure Developer’s Journey into Scala.

Speaker: Kaleb Roncatti de Souza, Software Engineer @ Riskified

Summary: In his talk, Kaleb will focus on the differences and similarities between the two main JVM-based functional programming languages and his path from one to the other. He'll cover his personal experience transitioning from Clojure (a weakly typed language) to Scala (which is strongly typed), discussing some pitfalls and a small performance comparison.

Bio: Kaleb is a Software Engineer with 5 years of experience, currently at Riskified and previously at Nubank. With a Master's in Engineering Physics, his professional experience is mostly focused on backend distributed systems. Originally from Brazil, he has also lived in France and now Portugal for the past year. In his personal time, he loves sports, learning new languages, and playing musical instruments.

Title: Defending Against Supply Chain Attacks

Speaker: Bálint Hegyi, software engineer @ Gradle

Summary: Supply chain attacks are not a theoretical threat: in the year alone, we could see multiple attacks that led to a significant amount of leaked data and compromised systems. In this talk, we'll explore what a supply chain attack is, potential attack surfaces and methods, and how we can defend ourselves against them.

Bio: Bálint Hegyi is a Software Engineer at Gradle focused on build tooling and developer productivity. Previously at CERN, he joined and eventually led the evolution of internal build tools for the accelerator complex.
